About the Attorney
Richard F. Joyce, B.C.S.
As a Miami-based Florida Bar Board Certified Attorney in Juvenile Law with over 31 years of legal experience, I have earned a well-deserved reputation for providing my clients with top-notch legal representation and for being extremely knowledgeable about the complex and specialized area of Juvenile Dependency Law in Florida's trial and appellate courts throughout Florida. I have significant experience representing clients in Florida's trial and appellate courts. Other attorneys consult with me frequently about issues in this area of the law and for assistance with cases.
I represent clients in all stages of the legal process involving allegations of child abandonment, abuse, neglect or abandonment brought by the Florida Department of Children and Families or a private petitioner, including the most serious cases involving allegations to terminate a parent's parental rights to a child.
During my career, I have handled over 310 appeals in the specialized area of Juvenile Dependency Law. I also represent clients in Family Law appeals and appeals in other areas of the law.
In 2008 as a Chief Assistant Regional Counsel, I was instrumental in establishing the Dependency Division for the Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel, Third Region of Florida for Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.
Prior to that in 2004, as an Assistant General Counsel for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court of Florida for Miami-Dade County, I advised the Court on the implementation of Revision 7 to Article V of the Florida Constitution and the changes regarding private court-appointed counsel for indigent persons in civil and criminal cases.
I have presented at seminars, been quoted in the media and received recognition for my advocacy representing parents and children in the area of Juvenile Dependency Law. I am presently an appointed member of The Florida Bar Juvenile Court Rules Committee, a former member of the Miami-Dade County Bar Association Juvenile Court Committee and former co-chair of the Parents' Advocacy Subject Matter Workgroup of the Public Interest Law Section of The Florida Bar.
